🌟 Empowering Youths Through Sustainability: A Heartfelt Workshop at MySkills Campus 🌱August 08, our MySkills campus was buzzing with excitement as we hosted an inspiring workshop titled "Rags to Riches: Empowering Youths Through Sustainable Products." We were privileged to partner with Edwards Lifesciences Malaysia, who brought 50 of their dedicated staff to make this event a resounding success. The workshop was spearheaded by the APAC Product Manager, Ms. Ranjeeta Kaur, with special support from the Country Leader of Edwards Lifesciences, Mr. Parameswaran Nair, who also connected with our participants. Their leadership and passion for sustainability were evident as they guided 100 of our students through a hands-on stitching workshop. Using recycled materials, our students learned to craft heart-shaped pillows, creating 50 unique and beautiful pieces by the end of the day. This workshop was more than just a lesson in crafting it was an opportunity for our students to engage with the concept of sustainability in a tangible way. Each pillow represents not just their hard work, but also a step towards a more environmentally conscious future.Prior to this event, 10 of our students had the incredible opportunity to visit the Edwards Lifesciences office. This visit allowed them to gain valuable insights into the workings of a global leader, enhancing their understanding and inspiring them as they approached the workshop. The knowledge they gained was reflected in their enthusiasm and dedication during the event. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Parameswaran Nair, Ms. Ranjeeta Kaur, and the entire Edwards Lifesciences Malaysia team. 🌍 A Business Look at Sustainability 🌱Reflections from a thought-provoking guest lecture by Philippe Guégan, Global Head of Marketing and Sustainability at Henkel Adhesives for Consumers and Craftsmen, in my MBA course "Sustainability & Profit - Turning the Trade-off into Synergy" at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management. Key Insights from the lecture:💡 Stakeholder Pressure: Businesses are facing compounding pressure from governments, consumers, employees, and investors who are increasingly making decisions based on a company's sustainability practices.💡 Sustainability as a Business Imperative: Philippe emphasized that sustainability is the biggest game-changer for businesses aiming for success by 2030. Adapting to new end-user behaviors, navigating accelerating legislation, meeting demanding customer expectations, managing competitive pressures, and addressing the complexities of new raw materials are essential.💡 Strategic Frameworks: The concept "Renew & Protect" guides sustainability at Henkel Adhesives for Consumers and Craftsmen. This framework showcases how focusing on renewable energy, renewed innovation, repair, upcycling, and refurbishment protect natural resources and things we love.💡 Implementation of Circular Strategies: Philippe discussed strategies for achieving complete product circularity, reducing packaging materials, maximizing recycled content, and innovating in raw material usage.💡 Importance of Transparency: It is important to talk honestly about where the company is today in terms of sustainability and the reality of its impact. Henkel acknowledges the role of chemicals and embedded carbon in its portfolio and their product's end of life. This lecture has not only enriched our knowledge but also inspired us to think about sustainability as a game changer fur businesses on their journey to 2030. Special thanks to Philippe for guiding our future leaders in sustainability!WHU MBA ProgramWHU Sustainability Management Center#Sustainability #Marketing #MBA #myWHU #Henkel #CircularEconomy

As the sourcing arm for leading global discount retailer Lidl, Lidl & Kaufland Asia has always been committed to Sustainability, bearing in mind that our products and packaging can have a huge impact on the environment. This is why we always source for products that are not only of the best quality for its price point, but also kind to the environment. As it is in our DNA to constantly challenge the odds and reinvent our way of working, this resolve has led us to participate in Enterprise Singapore’s Sustainability Open Innovation Challenge 2023! 🚀 Thrilled to announce that our latest research paper “An investigation into the extent to which sustainable product development practices are implemented in manufacturing companies” has been published in Sustainable Production and Consumption! 🌍In an era where sustainability is at the forefront of both regulatory and consumer demands, our study sheds light on the application of Sustainable Product Development (SPD) management practices in the manufacturing sector. Despite the availability of numerous practices, our industry survey spanning 20 companies across 14 sectors reveals that most practices are still being applied at a low capability level.📊 Key Finding: Although the current implementation of SPD practices is at a lower capability, there is tremendous potential to enhance product sustainability performance. This underscores the critical need for stronger collaboration between academia and industry to bridge the theory-practice gap and transform knowledge into actionable sustainability strategies.🙏 A heartfelt thank to all the companies who participated in our survey, offering invaluable insights into the application of sustainability practices during product development.I’m deeply grateful to my incredible co-authors and supervisors Prof. Daniela Pigosso and Prof. Tim McAloone for their guidance and dedication throughout this research. Another special thanks to Assoc. Prof. Yuri Borgianni and Free University of Bozen-Bolzano for hosting me during this research with all the support.🔎 I invite you to delve deeper into our paper if you are interested in knowing the current landscape of sustainability applications. #Sustainability #LearningForPassion #SMUExDBadgesAs a continuation of my series, this one comes a bit out of order. So, before I continue with more learnings, I decided to start with a mini-celebration post first. 😃 I am excited to share that I recently earned a new certification from Singapore Management University in Sustainability Strategies and Green Economies!Last year, while speaking with my then-manager Gillian Lee, who knows about my ingrained passion for sustainability, she suggested that I learn more about it formally. (Thanks G!!) This resonated with me, and I immediately started searching for the right course. I came across SMU's ‘Sustainability Strategies and Green Economies’ course and decided to enroll. What a pleasure it is to learn for the sake of learning. Despite it being a while since I engaged in structured learning, my interest was immediate. Key concepts that stood out for me includes:• Lifecycle assessment of a product: Things aren't as black and white as they seem. For instance, did you know that a single-use plastic bag is better than a single-use cloth bag? We need to use a cloth bag at least three times to match the lifecycle cost of a single plastic bag.• Triple bottom line: Organizations are now focusing on people, planet, and profit in their annual reports, going beyond just profit.• Macro and micro factors influencing consumption: Understanding my own hedonistic cycle of purchase, even though I mostly buy pre-loved clothes. On a recent trip, I felt the urge to buy something fancy, only to experience short-lived joy and the guilt of purchasing a ‘want’ instead of a ‘need’.An article that helped me understand hedonistic adoption further: https://lnkd.in/gwD7MnYz.There was also an interesting overlap with my work:• Using behavior science principles to promote sustainability: For example, ‘self-perception’ theory – we often base our attitudes on our actions. If we recycle because it’s easy, we start seeing ourselves as more environmentally friendly. At work, we too help customers make sound financial decisions and improve financial literacy using behavior science in our communications.• Collaborative leadership strategies: Developing overarching identity and goals, building consensus, and ownership for decisions among peers, and listening to signals from stakeholders.Learning deeply about sustainability and global efforts to find tangible solutions to our environmental crisis gives hope for a better future. We also learned to identify ‘greenwashing’ by even the biggest corporations. I look forward to applying these learnings in both my personal and professional life! Here's to continuous learning and making a difference!#Sustainability #LearningForPassion #SMUExDBadges

One of the best things about working with Henkel is the continued commitment to #climatechange #sustainability #equalitydiversityinclusion. Many companies are working towards #carbonneutrality , Henkel are going further and focusing on #regenerativeplanet.Yet again Henkel have received a platinum award by EcoVadis. The Top 1% most sustainable companies worldwide. What is EcoVadis?EcoVadis is a global sustainability ratings platform that assesses the environmental, social, and ethical performance of companies. It provides businesses with a comprehensive evaluation of their sustainability practices based on various criteria such as environmental impact, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Ecovadis aims to promote transparency and encourage companies to adopt more sustainable practices by providing them with a reliable and independent assessment of their sustainability performance. There are so many companies #greenwashing who claim sustainability and like to use it as an advertising slogan. When you see their manufacturing process you question their ''sustainability''. Other great Henkel 2023 sustainability snapshots,At Henkel, all 53000 employees are funded and given time to undertake a sustainability course with the University of Navarra School of Economics and Business. You may notice our sustainable pioneers badges. Four of our Henkel Ireland R&D labs recently completed the My Green Lab Certification Programme, receiving the highest possible level of “Green”. This is the first time a Henkel lab has received this certification. The My Green Lab Certification is considered thegold standardfor laboratory sustainability best practices around the world.Henkel maintained its prime status with ISS ESG, Henkel was the best performer in consumer goods sector.Henkel included in the FTSE4GoodHenkel Listed in the Global 100 most sustainable companies https://lnkd.in/gn2as3ug
